Description: This graffiti appeared in Brick Lane, London, England. It shows a girl in pigtails wearing a gas mask and holding a flower. The petals of the flowers are being blown off. According to our research Banksy represented her with a gas mask to report the government’s oppression. As little as she seems, her voice has been taken away. It might represent that the society does not want children to think by themselves and it claim for the adults’ manipulation on children’s’ opinion. With this graffiti, Banksy ensures that everyone deserves a voice despite of the age, the gender, race or religion and the government should help people to have it rather than take it away. Why does Banksy represent mostly children?
In his book called “Wall and Piece”, he talks about this issue and for him children represent the innocence and vulnerability. They are people who has not been manipulated by the media, their context and an endless list of circumstances. That is why he gives many importance to childhood because it is the period of time in which should be happy and enjoy their lives.
